As kids grow, they become more and more curious about their surroundings. They begin to explore and ask lots of questions. As parents, we can help boost their curiosity and spark creativity by introducing them to new things. Among others, science can be the most exciting topic.
Science might sound intimidating to some of us, but it doesn’t have to be. They can be very simple and easy to explain. Let’s review 3 simple experiments that you can start doing at home with your kids.
Making Bubbles
Bubbles are fun for both kids and adults. Thus, making bubbles is also a fun summer activity to do with kids. Let’s get started!

What you will need:
- A container to mix the liquid. You can use a bowl, a small tub, or a bucket.
- Distilled water. You can get distilled water at the supermarket or a pharmacy.
- Liquid dish soap. Any dish soap you have at home will do the trick.
- Glycerin. This can be found at your local pharmacy or online.
- A spoon or stick. You will need something to stir the mixture.
- Wire or bubble wand. You need this to blow the bubbles.
The Bubble Ratio
Note: adjust the amount of each ingredient to your desire.
- Distilled water: 7 parts
- Liquid dish soap: 3 parts
- Glycerin: 1 part
Instructions
- Step 1: Add distilled water to your container. Add dish soap, followed by the glycerin.
- Step 2: Stir to mix.
- Step 3: Set the mixture aside for 30 minutes.
- Step 4 (optional): if you don’t have bubble wands, you can make 1 with a wire. Bend the wire to make a loop. Twist to secure. Cut the wire to the desired length.
- Step 5: Have fun!
Magnified Leaves
It’s very interesting to see how something looks if they are 10 times bigger. A magnifying glass is perfect for this type of discovery. In this experiment, let’s see how different leaves look under the magnifying glass.
What you will need:
- A magnifying glass
- Different types of leaves. You can find many in your garden or at the park.

Instructions
- Step 1: make observations of each leaf. Draw them on the worksheet.
- Step 2: put each leaf under the magnifying glass.
- Step 3: make observations of the vein patterns.
- Step 4: draw the vein patterns on the worksheet in accordance with its leaf.
The Magic Flowers (Flower Changing Colors)

- Food coloring in different colors
- Water
Instructions
- Step 1: add water to the cups
- Step 2: add about 10-15 drops of food coloring into the cups. Stir to mix

- Step 4: Add one flower stem to each colored cup
- Step 5: Check every 2 hours to see the color changes
